Pam Palmer - City Mayor In 2008, Mayor Pam Palmer was elected as the first female Mayor of City of Adamsville receiving 58% percent of the vote against the opposition of three male candidates. Daughter of "Crazy Bill" and raised in the "Fireworks" industry, Mayor Pam Palmer graduated from Minor High School in 1981. That same year "FIREWORKS" were legalized in the State of Alabama. She earned an Associate’s Degree of Science in Nursing and is a Registered Nurse specializing in Cardiac Care. She is the mother of 4 children, 3 beautiful daughters and 1 very special son who was adopted when he was only 9 months old, he is 14 now. He was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at the age of 12. She also has 5 precious grandchildren and is married to Gary Palmer. Gary was a manufacturer of Consumer Fireworks for about 30 years. He is currently her business partner in other family fireworks businesses.
She has been employed by Crazy Bill’s Fireworks since its beginning in 1981. For many years, Crazy Bill's has been the holder of the largest number of fireworks permits in the State of Alabama. She served as President until 2008 and has Managed 112 fireworks retail stores throughout Alabama. As Vice President of Fireworks of Alabama, she is an importer, wholesaler, distributor, and retailer of Consumer Fireworks. Mayor Palmer’s other affiliations include President – Alabama Fireworks Association, Member – National Fireworks Association, Member – American Fireworks Standards Laboratory, Member – Adamsville Lions Club, President – West Jefferson Civitan Club, and Chairman – Adamsville Landfill Authority.
One special notation to her line of business and one that she specifically remains proud and honored to share: On April 5, 2006, a Joint Resolution of both houses was passed to honor her due diligence by working together with Children’s Hospital of Alabama to protect the children of the State of Alabama by promoting the safe and responsible usage of fireworks.
Susan Gilmore - City Clerk/HR Director Susan Gilmore serves as Adamsville’s City Clerk and Human Resources Director. She brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership and experience to the job. She earned her Certified Municipal Clerk Certification in 2009 after attending the University of Alabama Continuing Studies in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She is a Certified Municipal Revenue Officer and earned that Certification in 2007. Recently this year, Susan earned her Magistrate Certification through the State of Alabama Office of the Courts. She serves as President of the Jefferson County Municipal Clerks Association. Susan studies through Auburn University’s professional continuing studies program, the Alabama Association of Public Personnel Association working on a Human Resources Professional Management Certification. With over seven years geared specifically in working in municipal government and fifteen + years of experience working in Human Resources and owning a software training company in the past, the City stands to reap many benefits utilizing her talents and knowledge.
Some of the tasks associated with being the City Clerk include: attending all city council meetings, records minutes, prepares ordinances, resolutions and proclamations, council agenda management, prepares other legal documents as necessary for the council to consider, serves as primary financial officer for the City, maintains accounting records and financial statements, budget preparation, administers financial investments of municipal funds, responsible for all official city records, etc… etc...
